CULTURE & COMMUNITY: The son of Holocaust survivors, Holt was appointed vice chairman of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council by President Obama in December 2015. The Holts, via their Hillside Foundation, recently gave a $20 million gift to United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in support of a comprehensive revitalization of its permanent exhibition. Among other things, the funds will will support "efforts to expand the reach and impact of the exhibition and ensure its relevance to new audiences, especially youth." The Holts have steadily supported the museum via their foundation.

The couple has also steadily funded The Defiant Requiem Foundation. The film Defiant Requiem tells the story of the Nazi concentration camp, Terezín. The Holts have also strongly funded Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

RELIGIOUS: The Holts are major supporters of Congregation B'Nai Tzedek. The foundation gave a $1 million grant to create the “B’nai Tzedek Fund for the Future.” The first focus of the fund is on a nursery school.

LOOKING FORWARD: Holt is only in his 60s and very much engaged in business. Grantmaking of late seems to be on the rise, up from around $1 million annually at the start of the decade to nearly $8 million in the most recent fiscal year released to the public.
