NXP Foundation

OVERVIEW: NXP invests in STEM education, health, and the environment.

IP TAKE: Having only recently absorbed the Freescale Foundation, the NXP Foundation's science education grantmaking is evolving.

PROFILE: The NXP Foundation, which absorbed the once Austin-based Freescale Foundation, is the philanthropic arm of the corporate semiconductor company NXP Semiconductors N.V. The foundation seeks to "develop strong youth STEM programs and encourage innovation that makes a difference in the world." It promotes STEM education across the globe in an effort to "continue to drive the most innovative solutions for a better future." The foundation invests in STEM education, health, and the environment.

In funding science education, the foundation prioritizes STEM education at both the K-12 and higher education levels. The NXP Foundation, though it maintains a limited web presence, invests in educational projects and organizations that "encourage students to learn about science, technology, engineering and math to help inspire future innovators." Unfortunately, it does not provide further specifics within this broad scope. The foundation no longer appears to support its Women in STEM program, among other previous STEM grantmaking.

Grants range from about $1,000 to $10,000. Past grantees include Girlstart among many others. Unfortunately, the foundation does not offer any information on whether it supports unsolicited applications or LOIs.
