PROFILE: Established in 2005, the Eustace-Kwan Family Foundation is the foundation of former Google senior vice president Alan Eustace and his wife, Kathy Kwan, who worked at Kaiser Permanente for more than a decade. Kathy serves as president of the foundation, which has a minimal web presence. The Philanthropic Ventures Foundation initially helped the couple establish partnerships with several local nonprofits. The couple also established the Eustace-Kwan Family Foundation Scholarship via the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Grantmaking areas of interest include educational equity, job skills, and leadership and professional development.

Grants for Education, College Readiness, and Work and Economic Development

This foundation has been increasing annual education grantmaking, supporting public school districts in Redwood City and Menlo Park. Another education grantee is Aim High, an organization that "closes the opportunity gap for under-resourced middle school youth by providing them with a free summer learning program." In the higher education arena, Eustace-Kwan has supported Kathy’s alma mater, UC Berkeley, where she has also served as a trustee, and the Haas Center for Public Service and Global Health Sciences at UCSF. The foundation has also made grants in the area of work and opportunity, supporting organizations that provide job and technical skills. Grantees in this area include Job Train, which provides job training and placement services in Menlo Park and East Palo Alto, Health Career Connection, which "empowers undergraduate students, recent graduates and HCC alumni to successfully pursue health careers," and DeAnza Tech Automotive.

In recent years, most of the foundation’s support has gone to Goldman Sachs Philanthropy Fund, a charity which administers donor-advised funds.
