OVERVIEW: The Hubbard Family Foundation supports youth, education, music, art and entertainment in the Napa Valley and greater Northern California region.

IP TAKE: There are some opportunities here for start-up organizations in the Napa Valley that work with local youth. It does not appear that this funder accepts unsolicited proposals for funding.

PROFILE: The Hubbard Family Foundation is the foundation of Michael and Melinda Hubbard, who have lived in the Napa Valley of California for many years. Michael Hubbard visited the Napa Valley in the early 1970s and moved the headquarters of his business here in 1975. The founders are involved in the local community and hope that this foundation will be a legacy for future generations of Hubbards to follow. The foundation aims to “provide for Northern California youths, with a focus on Napa Valley-area children and the opportunity to learn music and art.” Grantmaking focuses on creating opportunities for children and youth to learn and participate in the arts.

This foundation makes grants to advance and improve upon the education of young people age 17 and younger. It regularly awards grants to local groups that expose children to the arts and entertainment. Hubbard looks for grantees that are committed to promoting children’s artistic growth and development. Additionally, the Hubbard couple funds Queen of the Valley Foundation, which supports the medical center’s regional heart center. Hubbard provides support for operating costs, established programs and start-up endeavors. But as a general rule, Hubbard does not support medical research, organizations with access to mainstream financing, political or religious causes, or animal rights or animal welfare causes.

The Hubbard Family Foundation maintains a relatively low profile and does not publicize past grants on its website or elsewhere. However, the funder awards approximately $10,000 in grants each year. Grantmaking focuses on the Napa Valley region of California, as well as the greater Northern California region.

It does not appear that this foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits, nor does it provide grant application forms or application deadlines on its website. Direct general questions to the foundation staff at 916-986-9696 or via online form.
