PROFILE: Founded in 2000, the Drew Foundation was established by tech mogul John Drew and his wife Ellen. John and Ellen are members of the Canary Foundation’s leadership council. The Canary Foundation is “dedicated to the goal of identifying cancer early through a simple blood test and then isolating it with imaging.” The Drew Foundation’s grantmaking includes support of cancer research, human services and the arts.
Grants range from $5,000 to $340,000. Grantees have included the Canary Foundation; Meals on Wheels SF; the National Museum of Women in the Arts; the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley and the Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation, whose goal is to “assist severely wounded and injured, post-9/11 veterans in their efforts to become productive and self-sufficient members of their communities as they transition back into civilian life.” It’s worth noting that John Drew attended West Point and served in the army.
