Entergy Charitable Foundation: Grants for Early Childhood Education

OVERVIEW: The Entergy Foundation supports early childhood education organizations that work with low-income and underserved communities.

IP TAKE: Submission deadlines for early childhood education grants fall on February 1 and August 1.

PROFILE: The Entergy Charitable Foundation was established in 2000 as the charitable arm of the Entergy Corporation. The foundation “strives to contribute to a society that is healthy, educated, environmentally safe, and productive.” The foundation’s grantmaking programs include Education, Low Income/Poverty Initiatives, Environmental Programs, and Diversity and Inclusion Programs.

Entergy’s education related giving focuses on helping to “level the playing field in the area of education for at-risk children from high-poverty communities.” The foundation’s early childhood education grantmaking supports organizations that provide access to high quality early childhood education programs for children from low-income families.

Most Entergy Foundation grants are for $50,000 or less. Past early childhood education grantees include Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families in support of its Investing Early in Education program and Excel by 5 Inc., which received a grant for its Early Childhood Community Certification Initiative. The foundation geographically limits its grantmaking to the following states in which the company has an operational presence: Arkansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, and Texas. Grantseekers with questions regarding the foundation’s grantmaking process are encouraged to contact their local contributions coordinator.

Entergy accepts unsolicited grant applications on an ongoing basis and requests that grantseekers submit their applications at least three months in advance of when they need the funds.
