Francis R. Dewing Foundation: Grants for Early Childhood Education

OVERVIEW: The Francis Dewing Foundation awards grants to early childhood education projects aimed at children from two years old to the sixth grade.

PROFILE: Frances R. Dewing created her foundation in 1963 to “provide seed money for the intellectual stimulation of young children.” The Frances R. Dewing Foundation (FRD Foundation) remains a small organization “that supports innovative ways of teaching young people.” The FRD Foundation seeks early childhood education projects and programs that address children from age two until the sixth grade. According to the foundation, it emphasizes giving to novel, untried or unusual education organizations that provide innovative methods of learning for young children.

FRD accepts unsolicited grant applications and proposals throughout the year and request that applicants send along “six copies of a detailed description of their projects. Deadlines for submissions fall on April 1 and October 1.
