Free Press Unlimited: Grants for Journalism

OVERVIEW: Free Press Unlimited supports journalists and media organizations that face attacks, persecution, threats, and harassment.

PROFILE: Based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Free Press Unlimited “believes that objective information can be of live-and-death importance.” The organization aids journalists working in some of the most dangerous war zones and conflict arears around the world “provide their audience with trustworthy news and information.” Free Press Unlimited operates a few programs and projects, such as its promotion of investigative journalism in Tunisia and its ongoing project to increase equality for women in the media. It also has an emergency grants program called Reporters Respond.

Reporters Respond is “meant to help journalists who have been confronted with vandalism or intimidations get started again as soon as possible.” Free Press also offers Reporters Respond grants to media outlets as well. One of the main goals of these grants is to help journalists and media outlets resume their work as quickly as possible.
