OVERVIEW: The Fund for Trans Generations focuses its LGBTQ related grantmaking on the needs of trans girls and women.
IP TAKE: This funder supports groups historically excluded from national funding.
PROFILE: A small group of diverse funders joined forces to create the Fund for Trans Generations (FTG). The NoVo and Arcus foundations represent some of the fund’s current financial supporters. FTG is a grantmaking initiative of Borealis Philanthropy, which works to “ensure that frontline trans activists and organizations have the financial resources and engagement needed to advance the safety, security, and rights of trans people.”
FTG offers both general operating support and rapid response grants. The fund’s rapid response grants support projects that require a quick or immediate response to situations and events such as transphobic attacks by individuals or institutions.
FTG grants support organizations with budgets under $600,000. Rapid response grants do not exceed $20,000. To learn more about the types of organizations FTG supports in its grantmaking, explore its grantees list.
The fund accepts unsolicited letters of inquiry in the fall of each year and announces its next round of grantmaking opportunities during the summer. Organizations seeking rapid response grants should visit its grant portal to apply.
