Grants for Visual Arts

The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse is a non-profit institution located in a 45,000 square foot retro-fitted warehouse in the Wynwood Arts District of Miami. It focuses seminal works by important artists in the realm of European Modernism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop, Minimalism, Conceptual, Arte Povera, video, vintage and contemporary photography, and installation art. The Warehouse hosts exhibitions and educational programs and offers tours throughout the October to April season. Tours are geared towards students studying the arts. The Warehouse is operated and funded by the Martin Z. Margulies Foundation, which works for the study and enjoyment of the visual arts. The long time curator of the collection is Katherine Hinds. Major gifts include Kenhinde Wiley’s Saint John the Baptist, at the National Museum of African American History and Culture and Anthony Caro’s Double Variation at Cornell University. The Margulies Collection is also a direct supporter of the Lotus House Women's Shelter.

Past grantees include University of Florida Levin College of Law, Temple Israel of Greater Miami, and Sundari Foundation, whose mission is to “improve the lives of homeless women, youth and children by providing sanctuary, support, education, tools and resources that empower them to improve the quality of their lives on every level, achieve greater self-sufficiency, and build safe, secure lives.” Margulies also made a $20 million gift to Lotus House, a Miami homeless shelter for women and infants, where he serves on the board of Lotus Endowment Fund. The foundation also gave $2.5 million for the construction of the Overtown Youth Center in downtown Miami.
