IP TAKE: With so many global health funders focused on dread diseases, this is a good grantmaker to know about for NGOs that are focused on providing quality basic quality health care.

PROFILE: Since 1981, the Baxter International Foundation has supported "initiatives and organizations that make a positive, lasting impact on increasing access to healthcare for the disadvantaged and underserved." The philanthropic arm of Baxter International, the foundation is located in Deerfield, Illinois and has a global presence in more than 100 countries. It awards grants to projects that address the health care needs of vulnerable populations around the world, paying particular attention to the areas in which its employees live and work. Health and healthcare-related grants are awarded through Baxter’s Community Grants program.

The foundation also awards grants in relation to natural disasters and tragedies. These grants are intended to fill the health care gaps and fund organizations that address the immediate, critical, and long-term health care needs of those affected by such incidences.
