PROFILE: The John & Jacolyn Bucksbaum Family Foundation was established in 2007. It was founded by real estate mogul John Bucksbaum and his wife Jacolyn, who worked in entertainment. John Bucksbaum was chairman and CEO of General Growth Properties (GSP), a publicly traded Real Estate Investment Trust cofounded by his late father. He went on to found Bucksbaum Retail Properties in Chicago.  The foundation lacks transparency and does not maintain a website, restricting further information on its priority areas and grantmaking strategies. The Jacolyn and John Bucksbaum Foundation focuses on early childhood development, Jewish education, excellence in sports, and the arts and civic organizations in Aspen and Chicago.  

Jacolyn co-founded the the Focus Foundation, which "deals with X and Y chromosomal variations and the resulting developmental dyspraxia and dyslexia." 

Grants range from under $5,000 to $147,201. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $1.6 million. Past grantees include Cinema/Chicago (Jacolyn sits on the board of The Chicago International Film Festival), The Field Museum (Bucksbaum is on the board); Temple Sholom of Chicago; World Sport Chicago (Bucksbaum is on the board); and Urban Land Institute - Chicago. The couple also recently gave more than $1 million to the Obama Foundation via their charity. 

The John & Jacolyn Bucksbaum Family Foundation keeps a low profile and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
