PROFILE: Established in 1940, the Kohler Foundation is a family foundation based in Kohler, Wisconsin. Evangeline Kohler, Marie C. Kohler, Lillie B. Kohler, Herbert V. Kohler, Sr., and O.A. Kroos created this foundation to support their interests. In addition to grantmaking, the foundation manages a historic home, hosts a performing art series, and is involved in preservation efforts. With regard to grants, Kohler supports local efforts for the arts and education.

The Kohler Foundation is primarily interested in local art and education programs in Sheboygan County, and it considers both new and returning grantees. Elsewhere in the state, the foundation typically funds repeat grantees and organizations in very small towns where little or no philanthropic funds are available. On occasion, the foundation considers requests for technology and equipment. However, it does not typically provide general operating support or support projects outside of the state. Kohler’s Distinguished Guest Series features professional performances in Wisconsin, while art preservation efforts extend nationwide. The funder also provides scholarships to Sheboygan County High School students for leadership and artistic merit.

Grants range between about $1,000 and $1 million. Many grants are $5,000 or less. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records.
