PROFILE: Established in 1985, the Community Foundation of Central Illinois is a community foundation based in Peoria, Illinois. A group of community-minded citizens came together to leverage their donations and build permanent endowments as charitable capital to serve the region. The foundation aims to improve communities by "connecting people who care with causes that matter.” It funds local efforts for arts and culture, women and children, local jobs, animal welfare and other community needs.

The Community Foundation of Central Illinois has a competitive grantmaking program to address community needs. CFCI provides program and capacity building support to nonprofits; however, it does not fund capital campaigns. Spring funding opportunities include community arts grants for arts education, performing arts, cultural activities, visual art displays, riverfront enhancement and art therapy. Animal welfare grants are also awarded in the spring. Summer and fall opportunities include funding for emerging philanthropists, local jobs, community development and the women’s fund. There are other opportunities for funding through the Ending Hunger Together Fund and opportunity grants that address unforeseen circumstances and special events.

Grants range between about $1,000 and $15,000. Grantmaking focuses on the area within a 50-mile radius of Peoria, Illinois, excluding Knox and McLean counties. Past local grantees include Quest Charter Academy, the Peoria Art Guild and PAWS Giving Independence. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records.

This foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits for numerous opportunities. Each grant program has its own unique set of guidelines and deadlines. Direct general questions to the staff at info@communityfoundationci.org or 309-674-8730.
