PROFILE:  Founded in 1994, the Herbert Allen Foundation was established by investment banking veteran Herbert Allen. Herbert Allen is CEO of Allen & Co., a boutique investment bank his grandfather co-founded. The family is worth over $1 billion. Allen sits on the board of Prep for Prep. While the foundation unfortunately prefers to not maintain a website, tax filings suggest that the Herbert Allen Foundation’s grantmaking includes support for educational and health organizations.

In a recent tax year, the foundation gave away $604,000. Grants ranged from $5,000 to $150,000 to The Hackley School in Westchester County, New York. Past grantees include Prep for Prep; Broome Street Academy Charter High School; New York-Presbyterian Fund; and Central Park Conservancy.
