PROFILE: Established in 2018, the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation (MCHF) is a health legacy foundation based in New York City, New York. The $3.75 billion sale of a nonprofit entity, Fidelis Care, to a for-profit company, Centene Corporation, created this foundation. It is rooted in Catholic traditions and named after Sister Frances Xavier Cabrini, who was an advocate for children and immigrants. The foundation aims to " promote, sponsor and support activities, programs and initiatives that enhance access to affordable quality healthcare and healthcare-related services and address the unmet healthcare and healthcare related needs of communities across New York State, including, in each case, the social determinants of health, consistent with the ethical principles, tenets and teachings of the Roman Catholic faith.” MCHF funds local efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable New Yorkers and diverse communities.

The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation addresses unmet healthcare and health-related needs of individuals, families and communities. It carries on the legacy of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini’s tradition of helping to heal the sick and care for the poor. MCHF commonly supports efforts that benefit local children and youth. Other populations of interest include older adults, immigrants, migrant workers, formerly incarcerated individuals, people with special needs, veterans, pregnant women, new moms and young adults. Overall, MCHF supports New Yorkers in need who come from all background and faiths, or from no faith at all. It has a statewide grants program that is open to the public, as well as a regional grants program and a special initiative grants program that are available on an invitation-only basis.
