Tina & Steven Price Charitable Foundation: New York City Grants

OVERVIEW: The Tina & Steven Price Charitable Foundation is the philanthropic vehicle of New York area couple Steven and Tina Price. The couple strongly supports the Jewish community in New York. Other interests include education and health in the Big Apple. Philanthropy largely tracks with personal ties and board memberships the couple holds.

FUNDING AREAS: Jewish Causes, Education, Health, Human Services

IP TAKE: The foundation keeps a low profile and does not appear to accept unsolicited proposals.

PROFILE: Steven Price graduated from Brown University, and earned his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law. He worked for Centerbridge Partners and late last decade founded Townsquare Media, a media, entertainment and digital marketing solutions company. Last decade, Price and his wife Tina also founded the Tina & Steven Price Charitable Foundation, which focuses much of its grantmaking on New York City. The Prices are active in the local Jewish community and serve on several key boards.

Price's board memberships include the UJA Federation of New York, which the couple has strongly supported via their foundation. Other NYC area Jewish organizations the couple has funded include Columbia Barnard Hillel (Tina is a chair of Hillel international and a Barnard graduate), Jewish Theological Seminary, Museum of Jewish Heritage, and Mechon Hedar, "a NYC area educational institution seeking to empower Jews to create & sustain vibrant, practicing, egalitarian communities." The family also funds Jewish arts outfits like Museum of Jewish Heritage.

Apart from Jewish causes, the Prices also fund educational institutions in New York. These have included Barnard College, Columbia Law School, and  Yeshiva Ohavei Torah in Riverdale. The couple also earmarks funds for health and human services. Grantees have included Mount Sinai Breast Health Resource Program, and Met Council, which "provides comprehensive social services to aid, sustain, and empower poor and near-poor New Yorkers.

Again, this is a low-profile charity and so information on exactly what the Prices look for in their New York City grantees is hard to come by. The couple through their foundation has given away under $2 million via their foundation in recently reported tax years. Assets have been between $9 million and $10 million.
