PROFILE: Established in 2016, the Foundation for Delaware County is a health legacy foundation that was formed when Prospect Medical Holdings acquired Crozer-Keystone. It is now the largest community foundation in this county of Pennsylvania, which is part of the Philadelphia metro area. FDC seeks to “build a healthy community and encourage philanthropy in Delaware County.” Grantmaking includes health for children and youth, men and women with cancer, seniors aging in place, and helping teenagers succeed.
This new community foundation made its first major grants in the fall of 2018. Maternal and child health grants fund groups that serve first-time mothers living in poverty. Cancer-related grants help support free mammograms and cancer screenings, as well as integrative and alternative therapies. Teen-focused grants support a health resource center and a drug free communities campaign. Finally, senior-focused grants help elderly residents live in their own owns with the help of caregivers and home health professionals. Past support has gone to the J. Lewis Crozer Library, Kids Smiles, Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware, and Chester Upland Youth Soccer. In addition to grants, the funder also provides scholarships for nursing and radiology technician students.
