OVERVIEW: The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation (CLFF) is dedicated to funding innovative and compassionate organizations in the areas of education, health and the arts. The foundation supports programs, services and opportunities for those struggling with less and striving for more.
IP TAKE: The foundation keeps a low public profile, which limits information available on its grantmaking priorities and activities.
FUNDING AREAS: Education & Youth, Health, Human Services
PROFILE: Founded in 1999, the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation was established by Hollywood screenwriter and producer Chuck Lorre. The foundation keeps a low profile, but an Idealist page for the website states that the “Chuck Lorre Family Foundation (CLFF) is dedicated to funding innovative and compassionate organizations in the areas of education, health and the arts.”
The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation made an initial gift to endow The Big Bang Theory Scholarships at UCLA, which provides financial support for students studying in STEM. Various cast and crew of Big Bang Theory have supported the program. California State Summer School Arts, meanwhile, is home to the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Legacy CSSA Scholarship Fund.
Lorre is a longtime supporter of Venice Family Clinic, "dedicated to providing free, quality health care to people in need." The clinic is home to the The Robert Levine Family Health Center, named in honor of Lorre's father.
Grants have ranged from $1,000 to $1,050,000 to Venice Family Clinic. In a recent tax year, the foundation gave away around $1.8 million. Past grantees have included Grammy Foundation, Downs Syndrome Association of Los Angeles, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and CLARE Foundation, which works in addiction.
CLFF recently tapped former Head of Showtime PR Trisha Cardoso to serve as president and Chief Giving Officer of CLFF. Given the foundation's lack of transparency, it is unclear whether it accepts LOIs or unsolicited applications; however, given this lack, it likely will not.
