Rosenthal Family Foundation

OVERVIEW:  The Rosenthal Family Foundation’s grantmaking includes support of educational and arts institutions.

IP TAKE: The foundation keeps a low public profile, which limits information available on its grantmaking priorities and activities.

PROFILE: Founded in 2008, the Rosenthal Family Foundation was established by writer-producer Phil Rosenthal and his wife Monica Horan, an actress. The Rosenthal Family Foundation’s grantmaking includes support of educational and arts institutions.

Despite its lack of transparency, tax filings suggest that Rosenthal and Monica support their mutual alma mater Hofstra University.

In a recent tax year, the foundation gave away around $2.6 million. Grantmaking appears to prioritize the Los Angeles region; however, it funds some organizations across California. Past grantees include the Big Brothers Big Sisters of LA, Homeboy Industries, UCLA, LA Philharmonic, Young Storytellers Foundation, Chabad of Greater Los Feliz, and Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles.

The foundation does not accept unsolicited applications.
