PROFILE: The Kayne Foundation was established in 1986. Richard Kayne is one half of the cofounding team of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. The other half, the late John E. Anderson, was a major benefactor of UCLA, whose business school is named after him. The Kaynes have also strongly supported UCLA, Kayne's graduate alma mater. A few years ago, Kayne and his wife Suzanne gave a $5 million gift to create Suzanne Kayne Investment Management Specialization Program Fund at UCLA Anderson School of Management. The family continues to support UCLA via the Kayne Family Foundation.
The Kaynes also fund education reform efforts in Los Angeles. The family has strongly funded Camino Nuevo Charter Academy in Los Angeles, as well as supported KIPP LA Schools, Alliance for College Ready Schools, and others. The family also supports youth outfits like Baby2Baby, which "provides low-income children ages 0-12 months with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities that every child deserves."
Suzanne Kayne sits on the board of LACMA, which has received strong support. Other L.A. arts grantees include Hammer Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Skirball Cultural Center, and Santa Monica Museum of Art. Several of the couple's kids are involved in the arts world and one daughter has a gallery in Los Angeles.
The Kaynes also earmark sums for health and human services in Los Angeles and have supported places like City of Hope, Women's Cancer Research Fund, and Homeboy Industries, which "provides hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated men and women."
The Kayne family also supports the Jewish community in Los Angeles. They've helped fund Jewish Family Services, and Jewish Community Foundation, among others.
