PROFILE: Price Philanthropies is a private family foundation with offices in San Diego and La Jolla, California. It seeks to “improve life opportunities for youth and families through grant making and through support of programs that benefit youth.” The organization used to be called the Price Family Charitable Fund. It was established in 1982 by Sol and Helen Price, and today is run by the couple’s son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Allison Price.

In 1994, Sol Price began working on a City Heights Initiative to provide better opportunities for the refugee and immigrant communities that live in this inner city San Diego neighborhood. East of downtown, the region consists of 16 neighborhoods and approximately 74,000 people in a densely populated area. The initiative offers opportunities for youth and families, with funding for education, housing, office space, health, human services, and the environment.

The family established the Aaron Price Fellows Program in 1991 to help public high school students in the San Diego area develop leadership skills and serve their communities. A class of ninth grade students from five public high schools participates in the three-year fellowship.

Outside San Diego, Price's Aprender y Crecer program supports public education in the Caribbean and Latin America. The foundation also supports education and opportunities for youth and children in Israel.

To apply for a Price Philanthropies grant, nonprofits can submit an initial grant request. After a screening process, the funder may request a more comprehensive application. The website outlines the basic information required for a funding request and provides links to its online submission system. Price does not accept funding requests on paper—grant seekers must complete the request online.

Email communication is not encouraged, so the best way to reach the foundation is by phone.
