PROFILE: The Eileen Fisher Foundation is the charitable arm of the fashion house of the same name. Having been around for more than 3 years, the foundation has “[r]ecognized the important role grassroots nonprofit organizations play in strengthening” the local communities in which Fisher’s headquarters, retail stores and showrooms are located. The foundation’s grantmaking supports women, business practices with “[a]bsolute regard” for human rights, and environmental sustainability.
Fisher’s main grantmaking programs directly related to women and girls are called Women-Owned Businesses and Activating Leadership.
The Women-Owned Businesses program awards grants to innovative, women-owned business that are ready to scale past the start-up phase. Eligible businesses must be majority women-owned (51 percent), have revenues below $1 million, in operation for at least three years, and be “[f]ounded on creating environmental and social change.” The minimum grant amount for this program is $10,000. The foundation’s Activating Leadership program seeks organizations that help women and girls “[f]ind their voices, build their inner strength and develop the confidence to pursue what really matters.” The minimum grant amount for this program is $5,000. The foundation accepts applications beginning in early summer, typically around the June 1.
