OVERVIEW: Matthew and Susan Blank do not appear to have a formal charitable vehicle. Blank is a steady supports of Harlem Children’s Zone in New York City.

BACKGROUND: Matthew C. Blank graduated from Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania and received his MBA from Baruch College. Blank held marketing positions at American Express and Philip Morris. He joined HBO, departing as Senior Vice President of Consumer Marketing. In 1988 he joined Showtime Networks, where he rose to the position of Chairman and CEO. Blank currently serves as a Director of Cumulus media and is involved in several Broadway and television projects.

ISSUES:

NYC COMMUNITY: Blank has been on the board of trustees of Harlem Children’s Zone for some two decades. He and Susan steadily support the organization, which works for “poverty-stricken children and families living in Harlem.” The couple also support Manhattan Theatre Club, where Blank is on the board of directors. He also serves as a trustee of the Museum of the Moving Image and the Creative Coalition. The Blanks have supported Ethical Culture Fieldston School in the past, as well.

OTHER: Blank has supported his alma mater UPenn.

LOOKING FORWARD: Blank still actively engages in business, but since he’s stepped down as Chairman and CEO of Showtime, perhaps he will have even more time for philanthropy.
