ISSUES:

GIRLS: Shaun Robinson recently established The S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls, which "supports small, grassroots charities working in five areas of girls issues: (S)TEM, (H)EALTH, (A)RTS, (U)NITY and (N)EIGHBORHOODS."

The foundation gave its first grant to Alternatives for Girls in Detroit, which seeks to "help homeless and high-risk girls and young women avoid violence, teen pregnancy and exploitation, and help them to explore and access the support, resources and opportunities necessary to be safe, to grow strong and to make positive choices in their lives." Other grantees include Techbridge Girls in Oakland, which deals with STEM education; Girl Up, on whose board Robinson sits; Healthy Girls Save the World; and Saving Innocence in Los Angeles, which works with survivors of sex trafficking.

LOOKING FORWARD: Robinson has said that she wants her foundation to be like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for girls of color and underserved girls. She recently joined Women Moving Millions, whose members pledge to give at least one million dollars each to initiatives promoting gender equality across the globe. Expect Robinson to contribute plenty more money and advocacy towards this cause in the coming years.
