Blue Buffalo Foundation: Grants for Animals and Wildlife

OVERVIEW: Blue Buffalo seeks organizations that conduct pet cancer research.

IP TAKE: This funder supports all aspects of pet cancer research.

PROFILE: Established in 2003, the Blue Buffalo Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the pet food company, Blue Buffalo. The foundation was founded in order to provide funding for academic institutions and clinics with “programs dedicated to gaining a greater understanding of the causes, treatments, and prevention of dog cancer and cat cancer.” Blue Buffalo also supports pet adoption organizations through its Community Involvement program.

According to its tax filings, the Blue Buffalo Foundation does not appear to award many grants each year, generally fewer than 10. Grant amounts range from about $5,000 to $50,000. Past grantees include the Joshua Louis Animal Cancer Foundation in support of its animal treatments for families that cannot afford pet medical costs, and the Catherine Violet Hubbell Foundation, which received funding for the creation of an animal sanctuary.

Blue Buffalo does not accept unsolicited grant applications or requests for funding.
