PROFILE: Established in Wisconsin in 1967, the Baird Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the financial services firm Robert W. Baird and Company. The foundation has a “[s]trong commitment to equality and opportunity for all and supports nonprofit organizations focusing on health, human services, the arts, and education."
The foundation’s website indicates that it allocates 34 percent of its funding to health and human services, 28 percent to education, 11 percent to the arts and 27 percent to “other” which “Includes ethnic, religious, environmental and youth organizations.” While Baird does not have a grantmaking program specifically directed at animals and wildlife, its tax filings indicate its support of such organizations.
Grant amounts typically range from $1,000 to $10,000. Past animal and wildlife grantees include local humane societies such as the Arizona Humane Society as well as organizations such as Big Cat Habitat Gulf Coast Sanctuary and the International Owl Center.
