Genentech Foundation: Grants for Diseases

PROFILE: The Genentech Foundation is the charitable arm of the biotechnology company of the same name. Overall, Genentech supports “independent medical education initiatives and charitable activities that are aligned with our efforts to improve patient care.” The foundation giving areas include Independent Medical Education, Healthcare Charitable Support, Philanthropic Charitable Support, Scientific Project Support, and Fellowships.

Genentech’s Independent Medical Education grants support efforts to “further the advance of medicine and healthcare by improving the knowledge of the medical community. These grants may fund programs by “independent educational providers, such as a community hospital, academic center, society/association or medical education & communication company.” Healthcare Charitable Support grants fund “programs open to a broad audience that benefit patients, the scientific or medical community, and/or public health,” including patient outreach, patient education, patient services, health screenings, and medical conferences, seminars, and symposia. Scientific Project Support grants fund “general research, translational research, other research or development projects, and/or other initiatives of research organizations, labs, and academic institutions.”

Genentech has a wide range of disease interests. Cancer is a major priority, including bladder, breast, cervical, gastrointestinal, colorectal, ovarian, and lung cancers, as well as leukemia, lymphoma, melanoma, and carcinoma. Genentech also supports work in non-cancer diseases such as multiple sclerosis, diabetes, hemophilia, macular degeneration, asthma, stroke, and rheumatoid arthritis.
