Panavision

Panavision

OVERVIEW: Panavision supports film by giving new filmmakers access to professional filmmaking equipment.

IP TAKE: This funder supports any form of film, from experimental to documentary to musical to traditional narrative. This creates more opportunity for funding than other grantmakers with similar programs.

PROFILE: Created in 1954, Panavision is a rental facility specializing in cameras and lenses, based in Los Angeles. It seeks to be “the world's leading designer and manufacturer of high-precision lenses for the motion picture and television industries, and one of the world's leading providers of camera systems, including both film and digital cameras.” It makes grants to student and independent filmmakers through the New Filmmaker Program.

Grants for Film

New Filmmaker Program supports students and new filmmakers by loaning camera packages to film schools, training programs, and independent filmmakers for student thesis films, independent features, showcase reels, PSAs, and other short not-for-profit projects. Projects that perpetuate racist or sexual stereotypes are ineligible, as is pornography.

To apply, applicants should submit a proposal with a cover letter, shooting location, shooting schedule, copy of the script, copy of the budget, filmmaker bios, contact information, three-line project synopsis, and proof of student status (if applicable). Applicants are required to supply their own equipment insurance. Apply via email at nfp@panavision.com.
