Kans and Kandy Charitable Trust: Grants for Global Development

OVERVIEW: The UK-based Kans and Kandy Charitable Trust largely supports education and poverty alleviation projects that focus on least developed countries.

IP TAKE: This funder does not clarify how groups may apply for grants or request funding. Grantseekers whose organizations closely align with the trust’s giving priorities should network with Kans and Kandy in order to establish a relationship.

PROFILE: The Kans and Kandy Charitable Trust is the philanthropic arm of the UK-based wholesale and property management company of the same name. The trust received 10 percent of the company’s net profits, which it dedicates to supporting “those less fortunate than us across the world.” Its global development-related grantmaking tends to focus on poverty alleviation and education.

The Kans and Kandy Charitable Trust’s grants are generally fairly modest and range from about £4,000 to £50,000. In the past, it has supported the Peru Mission, which constructed a bakery at a girl’s orphanage in Iquitos. In addition, the Children in Crisis group received £30,000 to help build a school in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The trust does not impose geographic restrictions on its global development related grantmaking. While it is not transparent regarding its grantmaking process, the trust notes that current grantseekers reached out prior to request funding. Grantseekers can also email the trust with questions at enq@kansandkandy.co.uk.
