OVERVIEW: TripAdvisor Charitable Foundation focuses its global grantmaking attentions mainly on development and health.
IP TAKE: While TripAdvisor is not very transparent, potential grantees may gain their attention through Global Giving, a platform the foundation uses quite often to make its donations.
PROFILE: The TripAdvisor Charitable Foundation (TACF) is the charitable arm of the TripAdvisor Media Group. TripAdvisor is one of the quieter corporate funders out there, but still manages to dedicate around $5 million annually to “address critical human needs, disaster aid, and crisis relief.” TACF's global grantmaking appears to be split fairly evenly between development and health groups.
This funder's latest tax filings do not indicate particular areas of focus; however, in terms of global development, it predominately appears to fund education programs in least-developed countries. It should also be noted that the majority of TACF's grantmaking is conducted via Global Giving.
Grants are relatively sizable, and range from $25,000 to $150,000. The foundation awards a healthy mix of both large and small organizations. Past grantees include Doctors Without Borders, American Friends of ZanaAfrica, and the Bridge to Turkiye Fund.
As with many corporate funders, TACF is not the most approachable. It does not accept unsolicited requests or applications, and does not have a staff dedicated to TACF's work. In addition, it maintains a very low public profile.
