Its funding initiatives are Health and Human Services; Youth and Education; Supporting Diversity and Inclusion of All Abilities; Hunger; Veterans; Environmental; Health and Wellness; and Health and Nutrition. The foundation is headquartered in Pleasanton, California, with satellite offices at the headquarters of each of the twelve supermarket chains.
The foundation’s Youth and Education program seeks K-12 schools and organizations that “encourage a child’s success in a safe environment and that foster learning in all subjects, including after-school activities as well as other interventions.” In Lubbock, Texas, the foundation has partnered with Texas Tech University to support Lubbock Lemonade Day, an event that teaches financial literacy and basic business concepts to local elementary school students. In Clark County, Nevada, Albertsons has supported development and expansion of popular Mariachi band programs, and in the states of Washington and Alaska, Albertsons' Safeway brand has supported 50 individual teachers' classroom projects with small grants between $5,000 and $10,000.
Albertsons’ education and youth grants range from $1,000 to over $400,000. The foundation awards grants to organizations located in the communities in which the Albertsons brands reflect an employee or operational presence.
