PROFILE: Established in 2005, the Charter School Growth Fund "identifies the country's best public charter schools, funds their growth and helps to increase their impact" through strategic multi-year investments. Based in Bloomfield, Colorado, the organization is supported by some of the biggest education funders, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Broad Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Its funding priorities are innovative schools and the development of leaders of color.
Grants for K-12 Education
CSGF’s innovative schools initiative supports the growth and expansion of charter networks and individual schools, prioritizing organizations that serve low-income and minority populations. Toward this end, the fund awards seed and scale grants. Seed grants support schools that plan to serve 250 to 1,000 new students over a two-year period, and scale grants invest in schools that will increase their student bodies by over more than 1,000 over a three- to five-year period. The fund also supports school leaders of color who work toward opening new schools and expanding networks in their communities. To date the fund has supported 40 such leaders of highly successful schools and networks.
