PROFILE: The Fund for Sandwich is a town fund of the Cape Cod Foundation (CCF), a local community foundation based in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts. CCF manages over 250 individual funds, including town-specific ones and topic-specific funds that support donors’ interests. Local residents and community leaders established this fund to preserve what they love about Sandwich and to benefit current and future residents with opportunities for philanthropy and grantmaking. The fund aims to “champion an easy, effective and proven way for each of us to help build a sustainable, permanent endowment to support the needs of our community now and in perpetuity.” It funds local human/elder services, education and cultural enrichment, and conservation efforts.

The Fund for Sandwich supports a broad range of issues areas in its home community. Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod and is filled with history, coastal marsh trails, ponds, cranberry bogs, and quaint homes and businesses. This is a summertime retreat for many people, but the fund is most interested in the needs of residents who have low-incomes and lack of access to affordable housing and gainful employment opportunities. It funds requests for both short-term needs and long-term investments in the community’s wellbeing.

Grants are approximately $500. In a recent year, the funder awarded a total of $2,500 to five organizations though the fund’s grantmaking program. Learn more about this funder’s local giving in the grantee listing on the funder’s website.  Grantmaking focuses exclusively on the Sandwich area of Massachusetts. Past local grantees include the Sandwich Arts Alliance, Sandwich Council on Aging, and Sandwich Elementary PTA.

This foundation accepts grant applications from nonprofits and utilizes an online application system to receive funding requests. The Fund for Sandwich has its own advisory committee but relies upon the experience and leadership of CCF for its grant review process and to help establish relationships with the nonprofit community and donors.
