PROFILE: Established in 2009, the Falmouth Fund is a town fund of the Cape Cod Foundation (CCF), a local community foundation based in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts. CCF manages over 250 individual funds, including town-specific ones and topic-specific funds that support donors’ interests. Local residents established the Falmouth Fund to support nonprofits doing positive work in their community. The fund supports local education, youth, recreation, health, human services, arts and culture, and environmental efforts.

The Falmouth Fund provides broad support for nonprofits that operate in this town. Over the years, it has funded food pantries, shelters, mentoring programs, and health centers. Other grant efforts include kids’ camps, field trip transportation, and playgrounds. Historical building preservation, concerts, film festivals, and theatrical performances are also interests of this fund. Overall, the fund focuses on vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and women in transition. The bulk of grants have been going towards health and human services lately.

Grants range between about $1,000 and $12,000. During the fund’s first ten years, it awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to assist over 70 organizations. Learn more about this funder’s local giving in the grantee listing on the funder’s website. Grantmaking focuses exclusively on the Falmouth area of Massachusetts. Past local grantees include the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, Falmouth Public Schools, College Light Opera Company, and Buzzards Bay Coalition.

This foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits and utilizes an online application system to receive funding requests. The Falmouth Fund has its own advisory committee but relies upon the experience and leadership of CCF for its grant review process and to help establish relationships with the nonprofit community and donors.
