BACKGROUND: Born in France, Pierre Lamond graduated with a BSEE and an MS in physics from Toulouse University. He started his career in the late 1950s as an engineer at Transitron Electronics before joining Gordon Moore’s team at Fairchild Semiconductor. Pierre left Fairchild in 1967 to cofound the National Semiconductor Corporation. Lamond joined Sequoia Capital as a general partner in 1981.

ISSUE: 

HEALTH: The Lamonds made a $5.2 million pledge to fund research at the Program in Human Genetics at UC San Francisco. Christine has served on the board of the UCSF Foundation. The couple has supported UCSF Cardiology via their foundation. Other grantees include Palo Alto Medical Foundation and Grace Science Foundation, which works to cure NGLY1 Deficiency.

ARTS & CULTURE: Lamond and Christine collect modern art, with a special interest in British artists such as Francis Bacon. Christine sits on the board of the San Francisco Symphony, which the couple supports via their foundation, and Council for the Arts at MIT. Other grantees include San Francisco Ballet and Corporation of the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco.

EDUCATION & YOUTH: The couple supports Kipp Bay Area Schools.
