OVERVIEW: Established in 1997 as a family foundation, the Desai Foundation aims to empower women and children through community programs to elevate health and livelihood in India and the U.S.

BACKGROUND: Samir Desai received his BSEE from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in India and his M.S. in industrial engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. Desai founded System Resources Corporation in 1985, a tech firm that served federal government agencies such as the Department of Transportation and the FAA. The company became a subsidiary of Titan Corp. in 1999. Desai went on to found Aditi, Inc. where he advises corporations how to succeed and grow.

DESAI FOUNDATION:  Samir and Nilima Desai established The Desai Foundation in the late 1990s as a family foundation. Initially, it focused on the Boston area, Harlem and Morningside Heights in New York City, and South Gujarat, India. Support went to organizations focused on health, education and Indian culture. The Desai Foundation subsequently became a public foundation, and refocused its mission to "empower women and children through health and livelihood in India and the U.S."

Partners include Community Impact at Columbia University, which brings "volunteer resources to help give back to the community in which Columbia resides: the Morningside Heights, Harlem, and Washington Heights neighborhoods of New York City;" Gram Seva Trust, "a non-profit organization in South Gujarat, India, dedicated to health care and rural development, formed by young doctors and professionals who have rural roots;" Middlesex Community College; and IIT Gandhinagar in India.

LOOKING FORWARD: Expect Desai to remain focused on his select interest areas.
