PROFILE:  Andrea James is a program officer at the Lexington, Kentucky-based Blue Grass Community Foundation. She has been in this role since February 2014. James is also the foundation’s consultant for the Lexington East-End Equity Partnership.

Andrea James works as program manager of neighborhood initiatives at the Blue Grass Community Foundation. The bulk of her work focuses on the East End and North End areas of Lexington. James also served on the merged government city council for two terms and has the distinct honor of being Lexington’s first woman of color to be elected to that role. Her professional areas of interests are around the topics of art, culture, food, health, philanthropy, and economic development through a lens of equity and inclusion. James is a co-founder of Not the Only One (NTOO), a woman of color networking meet-up group that has connected more than 200 local residents for support, networking, and encouragement. James’ personal areas of interest are in rural life, farming, mentoring, re-entry, history, and hospitality.
