PROFILE: Betsy Merzenich serves as the director of programs and deputy director of the Hellman Foundation and is a senior associate at Hirsch & Associates, LLC, Philanthropic Advisors. She’s been with Hirsch & Associates since August 2012 and previously worked as the director of San Fransicso YouthWorks for three years. Other experience has included senior program officer for Give2Asia, associate executive director for the Community Network for Youth Development, and consultant for the East Bay Community Foundation.

Betsy provides strategic planning and program management for Hirsch & Associates clients. Betsy has worked for the past twenty years in the fields of education, non-profit management and philanthropy, at organizations including San Francisco YouthWorks, College Track, the Oakland Fund for Children & Youth, and Give2Asia. She also has extensive experience providing strategic consultation to a diversity of Bay Area clients.
Throughout her career, Betsy has gravitated towards opportunities to help build and sustain systems during periods of transition. She particularly enjoys creating and implementing new strategies and structures to meet ambitious goals, and motivating diverse groups to work together to define effective methods to achieve these objectives. Betsy holds a B.A. in Government from Cornell University and a M.A. in Education from Stanford University.
