PROFILE:  Carmen Lopez, also known as Carmen Lopez-Wilson, has been a policy officer at the Thornburg Foundation since October 2014. She is the foundation’s specialist for government reform grantmaking. Before this, Lopez was the data, research and policy director for America Votes. She has been a board member for the Youth Media Project since December 2011.

Carmen López is the Good Government Reforms Policy Officer at the Thornburg Foundation. The Good Government Reforms strategic initiative seeks to support the advancement of transparent, ethical and responsive government. Ms. Lopez formerly served as the Data, Research and Policy Director for America Votes-NM. She convened the election administration coalition and lent her expertise to partner organizations’ statewide issue and electoral campaigns. She also served as a policy analyst for the NM Legislature, an associate with the Lujan Leadership and Public Policy Institute, and worked on issue campaigns at the local, state and federal level. Ms. Lopez earned a Master of Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Mount Holyoke College. Her thesis was entitled, “Wealth, Influence and Democracy: A Public Policy Analysis of Campaign Financing in the United States.”

Carmen J. Lopez, was born and raised in New Mexico. She has a MA in Public Policy, with a focus in Education, from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a BA in Politics and Women’s Studies from Mount Holyoke College. She is the Money in Politics-Policy Officer with the Thornburg Foundation. Previously she worked as the Data, Research and Policy Director for America Votes, NM Highlands University and the U.S. Department of Education.
