IP TAKE: Prieto is not only a long-term employee at the Wieboldt Foundation, she's also a long-term community activist who cuts a wide swath in her urban engagement.

PROFILE: Carmen Prieto has served as Associate Director of the Wieboldt Foundation since 1990. In a press release announcing her addition to the board of Kartemquin Films, Prieto described her role at Wieboldt by saying, "In my professional life I facilitate the provision of resources for grassroots community organizing for positive social change."

Prieto has also been active in the Chicago philanthropic community in other ways. She served on the board of directors of the Chicago Foundation for Women from 1998 through 2006, including as board chair from 2003-2005. Prieto was a member of the board of directors of the Donors Forum from 2004 through 2009, serving as a board vice-chair, co-chair of the board development committee, and co-chair of the Community Building Task Force. She is also a former board member and vice-chair of Chicago Health Outreach, a clinic providing comprehensive physical, mental, and dental health services to underserved populations

She is currently a member of the executive committee of Chicago Latinos in Philanthropy and also serves on the board of directors of the Lawyers’ Committee for Better Housing and the Chicago Area Women’s History Council.  .

For all of her service, Prieto has been honored by Mujeres Latinas en Accion with the Maria “Maruca” Martinez Community Service Award and by the National Museum of Mexican Art with their Sor Juana Achievement Award.
