PROFILE:  Carolyn Johns is the senior administrative officer and the executive assistant for the Sid W. Richardson Foundation in Fort Worth, Texas. She is the best point of initial contact for prospective grantseekers with questions about the foundation. A foundation expert, Johns has been with the funder since July 1982.

• Grant specialist – maintains grant databases, builds grant-related reports and letters, collects grant applications and supporting documents, communicates with grantees, supervises work performed by the administrative assistant
• Performs and/or delegates administrative tasks to ensure that staff can work efficiently and effectively and that the office runs smoothly
• Schedules staff meetings to discuss work-related issues
• Schedules and organizes semi-annual Board of Directors meetings and related notebooks
• Assists in conflict resolution
• Assists in decisions to purchase supplies and equipment and ensure the office is equipped with all materials needed to carry out daily responsibilities
• Assists in decisions to engage or change supportive services
• In conjunction with the Business Manager, reviews and recommends technological and procedural changes to ensure compliance with policy and improve work processes
• In conjunction with the President/CEO and Business Manager, communicates office policies, procedures and direction
• Executes administrative policies at the direction of the President/CEO
• Executive Assistant to the President/CEO
• Determines which information requires immediate attention of the President/CEO, and delegates or refers other materials to various staff

Johns’ educational background includes courses at Texas Wesleyan University and Texas Christian University, and a BS in education and speech pathology from Baylor University.
