PROFILE: Carolyn Wall Sakata is a newcomer to Pacific Foundation Services, which provides program and administrative support to the Morris Stulsaft Foundation. Since 2014, she has focused her client efforts on early childhood education, academic enrichment, and youth development. She once served as a board member for Girls on the Run Puget Sound and has a background in mental health, pediatric research, and youth philanthropy. She also serves as a program officer for the Gamble Foundations.

Carolyn joined PFS in 2014 as a Program Officer. She works with several clients that support a variety of different causes including early childhood education, academic enrichment, and youth development. Before joining PFS, Carolyn worked as Program Officer for five years at the Medina Foundation, a Seattle-based family foundation that focuses on issues of housing/homelessness, youth development, education, economic development, and food security. During her time at Medina, she was involved in the research, development and eventual launch of Seattle’s first and only low-income credit union, Express Credit Union. She also led the Foundation’s rural grantmaking and capacity building efforts. Carolyn also worked as a Program Officer for the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and their Families, focusing on community-based afterschool programs.
Prior to her work in philanthropy, Carolyn worked as a clinical social worker in community mental health, outpatient psychiatry, and addiction recovery settings. Some of her first jobs out of college included working as a program coordinator at Children’s Hospital Boston, an academic tutor, and a corporate paralegal. Carolyn has a BA in History and Spanish from Vassar College and a MSW from the Smith College School for Social Work. A native of the Bay Area, Carolyn lives in Redwood City with her husband, Derrick. In her spare time, you can find Carolyn cheering on the 49ers, volunteering with several local nonprofits, and spending time with her identical twin sister who lives in Oakland.
