PROFILE: Oswaldo Alvarez is a program officer for the Lloyd A. Fry Foundation's Employment program, joining them in April 2013. The foundation's press release announcing his hire explains:

At the Fry Foundation, Mr. Alvarez will oversee an Employment program portfolio of nearly 50 Chicago nonprofit organizations and an annual grantmaking budget of approximately $1.5 million.

“We are delighted to have Oswaldo to join our staff,” said Executive Director Unmi Song. “We have been impressed with his past work, and we look forward to having his talents and energy at the Foundation.”

Mr. Alvarez comes to the Fry Foundation from the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership, where he led the organization’s strategic initiatives in the manufacturing sector. Prior to joining the Partnership, he directed Erie Neighborhood House’s workforce development initiatives and guided the program from its pilot phase to a full department with an annual budget of over $500,000 and 15 staff in less than five years. Additionally, Mr. Alvarez has experience in international workforce development, including work developing a curriculum that would align Mexican manufacturing programs with American standards. Mr. Alvarez holds his M.A. from the University of Chicago and a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
