PROFILE: Sandra (Sandy) Chapin was married to American singer-songwriter Harry Chapin for more than 13 years, until his death in 1981. She is currently chairperson of the Harry Chapin Foundation, as well as for Long Island Cares, the Harry Chapin Food Bank. Her bio on its website states:

Sandy Chapin is chair of the board of the Harry Chapin Foundation, which is dedicated to bringing together diverse community resources to promote human dignity and human rights. She served on the board of WHY Hunger, founded by her late husband, singer-songwriter Harry Chapin, to address national hunger and poverty issues and has, in the past, been actively involved with the Huntington Arts Council. She has served on the New York State Nutrition Watch Committee, the New York State Food Council and the New York State and Suffolk County Martin Luther King Jr. Commissions. A writer, teacher and advocate, she is the mother of five children and grandmother of seven. She and her late husband wrote the gold record “Cats in the Cradle” and the ABC TV film “Mother and Daughter: The Loving War.” Sandy is also president of Chapin Productions LLC, a license administrating and music service company handling all of Harry Chapin’s music.
