PROFILE: Stephen P. Johnson has been the Rappaport Foundation’s executive director since January 2012. Upon his hiring at the foundation, Rappaport Today shared the following information:
Steve comes to the Foundation after 13 years with The Philanthropic Initiative, Inc. (TPI), a Boston philanthropy consulting firm, where he worked with a wide range of philanthropies, both domestic and global. He is a frequent author and speaker on strategic and family philanthropy, and has served as the managing director of his own family’s foundation for more than 20 years. Steve began his career as a corporate lawyer, transitioned into state and federal government, and spent the 90’s seeking to improve the state and federal courts.
Johnson has been a managing trustee at the Kelsey Trust and a senior fellow at TPI. He was TPI’s vice president from 2004 to 2010. He ran his own consulting firm from 1994 to 1998 and was the director for the Commission on the Future of the Courts from 1990 to 1994. Johnson’s background is in law, and he earned his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law.
