BACKGROUND: Irwin Edlavitch graduated from George Washington University in 1956 with a degree in business and later attended its law school. Edlavitch owned and operated Atlantic Garage, a major parking company in the Washington, D.C., area.

COMMUNITY: Edlavitch and Ginny are longtime benefactors of the Washington, D.C. Jewish Community Center, including a $6.5 million donation announced in late 2015. The gift renamed the organization’s building as the Edlavitch Jewish Community Center of Washington, DC. Other grantees include Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, Jewish Foundation for Group Homes, Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington, and Mandel Jewish Community Center in Ohio. 

RELIGIOUS: The couple supports Washington Hebrew Congregation. The synagogue’s event hall bears their name.

ISRAEL: The couple has strongly supported American Friends of Magen David Adom, “Israel’s national ambulance, blood-services, and disaster-relief organization, serving as emergency medical first-responders.”
