ProPublica Seeks to Diversify Its Funding Sources

ProPublica, the nonprofit investigative journalism outfit that launched in 2008 with a substantial gift from Herbert and Marion Sandler, is seeking to widen its revenue stream in more ways than one. Five years after its launch, it is diversifying its funding model and expects to raise more than two-thirds of its revenue from sources beyond the Sandler Foundation over the next few years.

Inaugural Director of Ford Foundation's JustFilms Moving On to Return to His Own Filmmaking

Orlando Bagwell, inaugural director of the Ford Foundation's JustFilms initiative, will be departing to resume his own documentary filmmaking after an incredibly successful stint with this still-young program. Bagwell is leaving Ford on good terms and leaving the innovative JustFilms initiative in very strong shape. No word from Ford yet on who his successor might be.

Ford Foundation Brings "Good Pitch" to New York for the Fifth Year

As part of its JustFilms initiative, the Ford Foundation hosted Good Pitch New York for the fifth year running, in cooperation with Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation and long time partner Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program (See Sundance Institute: Grants for Film). The event helped raise production and outreach funding for several of the projects invited, and provided a platform for all seven films to share their vision and connect with others who are committed to social justice documentary filmmaking.
