PROFILE: Established in 2012, the LGBTQ Community Fund is an interest-specific fund held at the Community Foundation of Utah in Salt Lake City. The fund got its start with a $50,000 challenge grant that helped find a transitional home for gay and transgender men living on the street. The fund launched a competitive grant process in 2013. It aims to “unite LGBTQ giving by leveraging individual gifts to create a meaningful impact” and to “strengthen Utah’s LGBTQ community and our state as a whole.” The fund supports local efforts that aid LGBTQ people in the region.

The LGBTQ Community Fund leverages gifts from donors, addresses changing community needs for LGBTQ people, and increases visibility for LGBTQ philanthropy in Utah. Its grantmaking funds derive from planned gifts, online donations, non-cash donations, and gifts on behalf of loved ones. Common themes of the fund’s grantmaking include providing shelter and resources for homeless youth, mentoring through art, and the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ individuals.
