PROFILE: Established in 1987, the NV Energy Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the NV Energy company, which is based in Reno, Nevada. This company serves northern and southern Nevada with a service area of nearly 46,000 miles and nearly 1.3 million electric customers. The foundation is “committed to connecting with the community through philanthropic efforts, including civic leadership, financial contributions and volunteerism.” It supports local efforts for arts and culture, education and STEM programs, environment and community enhancement, and safety and wellness.

The NV Energy Foundation funds programs and initiatives in the communities it serves, and also ties funding into the company’s business purpose. It often supports organizations that have opportunities for employee volunteering and that collaborate with other organizations and businesses. Arts and culture grants back performing and visual arts, dancing, music, theatrical performances, folklife, and cultural activities. Education grants support arts, literacy, workforce development, and projects in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Environment and community enhancement grants fund sustainability and stewardship, protection and restoration of wildlife and natural resources, enhancement of neighborhoods, and nonprofit capacity building. Finally, safety and wellness grants fund direct services for economically disadvantaged people, and address hunger, child advocacy, mental health and crisis intervention.

Important Grant Details

Grants range between $5,000 and $25,000. Grantmaking focuses on the state of Nevada, including the communities of Las Vegas, Reno-Sparks, Henderson and Elko.

This foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits, and each funding priority has its own application deadlines. Arts and culture applications are due November 15, education applications are due February 15, environment and community enhancement applications are due May 15, and safety and wellness applications are due August 15.
